Poetry Slam
On Wednesday 19th June, Year 3/4 will be having a Poetry Slam as part of a school wide inititative to promote poetry. Mrs Smith launched this in assembly this week and challenged the children to learn a poem off by heart. This is also a National Curriculum objective so is a great thing for the children to attempt. The challenge can be on any poem of their choice and be done individually, in pairs or small groups. In Year 3/4, we have already had a go at something similar in a previous Learning Log, so children should feel free to use the same poem or do something totally different. Choosing a poem can be hard so it would be great if you can help your child make a sensible choice, thinking about their age, reading confidence, memory and the complexity of the poem. I am also happy to recommend poems to children and we have been given a stack of poems and poetry books that the children can choose a poem from if they wish.
As this is a big challenge, learning their poem or part of their poem will be the children's Learning Log homework both this week and next week.

Year 3/4 Poetry Slam

Today was the long awaited Poetry Slam. Each class held their own ‘Slam’, with every child participating. A winner was chosen by the children from each class to perform in the hall in front of all LKS2 pupils. Fortunately, we also had enough time for the 2nd and 3rd placed poets from each class to also perform. All of the teachers were amazed by how hard the children had worked to memorise their poems. They also loved the expression with which they performed them, the actions some children had incorporated into their performances and for just having the confidence to get up in front of their peers and perform. They should all be very proud of themselves!

Interviewing the suspect - Mrs Johnson!

Italy!

Last week Y4R and the rest of year 3 and 4 had the privilege of flying with Pudsey Primrose Airways (piloted by their captain Mr Richardson.) We got to fly all the way to Italy and yesterday, we managed to take part in some Italian activities. Not only did we try some Italian food and sketch some famous buildings, we also managed to learn some of their language! Have a listen at what we learnt in only 15 minutes.

Science Super Learning Day - plastic cup investigation

Y4R started our Science Super Learning Day investigating the question 'Can we stand on a plastic cup without it breaking?' We discovered that a cup on its own will easily be crushed but if we put them together they can support more weight.
