We look forward to sharing our learning journey with you on this page. 

In Science we will be working on our enquiry skills and recapping all of our knowledge. 
In History we will be learning about Florence Nightingale. 
In DT we will be learning about healthy eating. 


 
Our PE day is now Tuesday. Please make sure that named PE kits are in school every day in case of any changes to this day. 

Learning Logs are sent home on a Wednesday and due back the following Monday.

We learned some new pastel skills to create some colourful pictures of sunset horizons.

Team Building and Problem Solving

We had a great afternoon working on our teamwork skills and solving problems with our friends! We passed a hoop around without breaking the circle and used hoops to cross the playground in teams.

GarageBand

As part of our 'Widening Our Horizons' Focus Week, we learned how to play 'Believer' by Imagine Dragons on GarageBand on the iPads. We were able to use our Rhythm and Pulse skills from earlier in the year and played the drum and piano parts of the song.

Florence Nightingale Day

We have had a fantastic day learning all about Florence Nightingale and why she is a significant historical figure. We enjoyed talking about Florence's upbringing, comparing hospitals before and after she changed things and making our own 'Lady with the Lamp' lanterns. We loved dressing up and acting as hospital porters, nurses and injured soldiers in Scutari hospital!

We have had so much fun working on our drawing skills today! We did some fun warm ups including drawing with our eyes closed, our 'wrong' hand and a partners hand. Then, we learned how to draw a butterfly and used charcoal to add detail. We also learned how to draw a minion. We also worked on self-portraits using the 'halfie' method.

Mondrian Collages

We have really enjoyed learning about Piet Mondrian and imitating his art work. We have learned all about Primary Colours and using shapes and lines. We have used paint, oil pastels, crayons and finally collaging to create our own versions of his art.

In our Music lessons this half term, we are learning how to use instruments in different ways to make different sounds. We have been practising counting beats and playing in groups.

We went on a walk around the school grounds to try and spot and name some plants. Take a look at what we found and ask us if we can name them!

We had lots of fun making our Easter baskets today.

Our new Science topic is Plants. We made our own flowering plants and labelled the parts. We talked about what each part does and why they are important to the plant. Take a look at our beautiful creations!

We have been sharing the games we made for our Learning Log with our friends at school. We have impressed our teachers with our speaking and listening skills and turn taking.

E- Safety with Smartie the Penguin

In PSHE and C we have been thinking about how to stay safe. We made some E-Safety posters to help us remember what to do if we see something we don't like online.

World Book Day

We had lots of fun dressed up as characters for World Book Day. We were able to talk about the character and the stories they came from and were able to share some new vocabulary with each other.

Measuring

We have been learning how to use appropriate language to compare the length and height of objects (taller, tallest, longer, longest, shorter shortest). We have also begun to measure things using non-standard units.

We have had lots of fun in provision this week becoming familiar with our topics for this half term- Monsters and Toys Through Time.

Write Now Focus Week

We had the most amazing week learning all about Rudyard Kipling's 'The Jungle Book'. We learned lots of new, exciting vocabulary, wrote some fantastic character descriptions for the fearsome tiger Shere Khan and impressed the whole school with our amazing retellings of the story. We had a lot of fun making Shere Khan and wolf themed art too.

Jungle Book Animations

We used an app called 'Animate It' to create our very own Jungle Book themed animations in pairs. We worked hard on our teamwork skills such as listening to our partner, sharing and working together.

We have enjoyed learning about Van Gogh this half term. We have been mixing colours to make different shades and to make secondary colours and have showed off our skills recreating 'Starry Night' and 'Sunflowers'. We have a lot of budding artists as you can see!

This half term, we have been trying really hard to be 'Learning Legends' by working on our independence. Here are some examples of the work we completed for the writing challenge in provision this week. Miss Barnsley is so proud of our spelling, handwriting and punctuation!

We have been learning about the place value of numbers to 50. We have been practising counting forwards and backwards and making numbers in lots of different ways.

Winter Walk

We went on a walk around the school grounds to try and spot some signs of Winter. We had so much fun comparing the weather and wildlife in Winter and Summer and found lots of interesting things by using our observation skills.

We have been learning about the different classifications of animals. We worked in groups to sort pictures of animals into the correct groups and we really impressed our teachers with our independence and team work skills.

Year 1 Nativity

Well done to our superstar children for their amazing performance. All of our teachers are extremely proud and thought we did a fantastic job! We hope all of the grown ups that came had a lovely afternoon watching us tell the story of the very first Christmas and singing traditional Christmas songs.

Our Trip To Pudsey Parish Church

We had a brilliant time at the Church! We listened to the story of the very first Christmas, made a Nativity pinwheel, decorated a star for our Christmas trees and made some puppets to retell the story. We would all like to say a huge THANK YOU to all of the people at the Church and all of the grown ups that came with us to join in the fun.

'Twas The Night Before Christmas

This week we are learning about the poem 'Twas The Night Before Christmas. We started the week looking at some of the new words in the poem and talking about what they mean. We worked in pairs to make word studies and shared our new knowledge with the class.

We have had a great day making puppets of 'Where The Wild Things Are'. We listened to the story in the morning and had lots of fun getting to know the characters by acting it out. We then researched a range of puppets and spent some time designing our own. Next we talked about cutting, joining and finishing before making our puppets. We had a lot of fun using our puppets to put on a Wild Things performance.

The Gingerbread Man

We have loved learning about the story of the Gingerbread Man this week. We have been trying really hard to use capital letters and full stops in our story writing and we are beginning to use adjectives to describe.

We had an amazing day dressed up in our sporty clothes. We had so much fun on the obstacle course and loved doing our thing in the CIN Talent Booth with Y1C.

Sukkot

We have been learning all about the Jewish festival of Sukkot. We made our own shelters and talked about why and how Jewish people celebrate this special occasion.

Anti-Bullying Week

This week, we have been talking about what makes us different and how we should respect each other. Here is our piece of the whole school jigsaw which will be put together at the end of the week.

Autumn 2- Week 1

We have had so much to talk about and celebrate this week! We have learned all about Bonfire Night, Diwali and Remembrance Day and have enjoyed making firework pictures, paper lanterns and poppies. We have also been learning about 2D and 3D shapes- challenge us to remember their names at home or while we are out and about!

Around the World Focus Week- Where's Wally?

This week we have learned all about the countries and capital cities of the U.K. We can find them on a map, know what the flags look like and can tell you lots of interesting facts about each of them. We enjoyed trying some local delicacies, practising some Irish dancing and listening to bagpipe music.

Week 7- Baffin Island

This week we have loved learning about Baffin Island and comparing it to the U.K. We have also been learning to use part-whole models to help us with our addition and subtraction- ask us about them at home and we can explain how it works!

Seaside Collages

Since our visit to Filey, we have been busy creating some beautiful seaside collages. We have used lots of materials to create different colours and textures.

We are starting a new story this week. Today, we listened to the story, explored some new words and answered questions as we went along. Then, we worked in partners to practise telling the story in our own words using pictures.

Science Super Learning Day- May the Force Be With You!

We had such a fantastic Super Learning Day learning all about forces. We investigated floated and sinking, made predictions and thought about similarities and differences between the objects that floated and sank. We investigated pushes and pulls and used our observation skills to work out which force makes certain objects/ processes work. We made kites to test in the wind and thought about what we would change if we made them again.

Pirates Love Underpants!

This week we have been reading the story of Pirates Love Underpants. We designed and labelled our own pirates, gave them a name and a pet parrot, made a treasure map of places we have visited and even wrote a message in a bottle for a lost pirate! We have had lots of fun in provision, especially in the creative area and role-playing with our friends.

We had a lovely trip to the seaside on Thursday. The sun was shining and we all had so much fun having a picnic, playing in the sand and having an ice lolly.

This week, we were learning how to write lists. Mrs Sanderson saw our amazing biscuits so we wrote her a list to go shopping for all of the ingredients so she could make her own!

We had a fantastic afternoon learning about Autumn and the changes that happen in the world around us. We looked at conkers, described them and even went on an autumn walk and picked some apples for play time!
