Spring 1
Our current class reader is: War Horse
Our current Read Aloud at home book is: Gangsta Granny
We will be learning about The Mayans in our topic work. Our Science this half term will be investigating the human body including the circulatory system, diet and excerise. The children will be taking part in the Daily Mile Marathon this half term. The children will be trying to run a marathon over the half term. The children won't be getting Learning Log homework this half term instead they will be getting SPAG and Maths homework each week.

Reminders
Please make sure your child works hard at home to gain a Mathletics certificate weekly.
 Your child can access Reading Plus at home to boost their reading flency and reading comprehension skills too.
Calendars

The children created their 2019 calendars by completing one half of their portraits and writing their wishes for 2019 around it. The children really focused on making sure they drew the correct size and shape of each part so it matched the photograph.

The children wrote newspaper reports based on the class reader 'A Room Full Of Chocolate.' Here are some fantastic examples.

Super Learning Day Design Technology

Year 6 designed and  hand stitched their own hand  puppets to re-tell the Where The Wild Things Are story to Key Stage 1 children. The enjoyed the challenge of threading needles , using the running stitch and tying knots.

Year 6 Enrichment

Mrs Smith's food tech group excelled themselves today by making very tasty Mexican nachos. They finely chopped and diced tomato, peppers, garlic and onions then heated butter beans, re-fried beans and passata. After that they cooked red lentils and mixed coriander in before serving on a bed of tortilla chips with a sprinkling of cheese. It tasted delicious!

Science Blast

Year 6 enjoyed building structures from spaghetti and marsh mellows. They looked carefully at iconic landmarks around the world and we discussed 3D structures their rigidity and suitability as a base. Reuben and Dylan won the competition by 3 cm -their structure stood 58 cms tall.

The children received their second postcard from Wally today and the children worked out he had been to Carlisle. The children learnt all about Carlisle and wrote Tripadvisor posts for things to do in the city. In the afternoon the children did a class piece of art linked to South American street art.

We flew to a mystery location and had to make an emergency landing. The children worked together to follow clues to work out where in the world we had landed. Rio De Janeiro.

Science Super Learning Day

Year 6 had a fabulous day investigating forces . They set up a fair test to see which shoe would be the best shoe for completing the obstacle course at Robin wood next week. After finding out more about friction in everyday life they used their prediction skills and teamwork to carry out the investigation then presented their results in a graph.

The children have been learning different skills linked to rugby. The children were trying to pass the ball backwards so they did not commit a foul throw. The children played different games to practise these skills.

The children wrote contrasting diary entries about the moment that Mina met Skellig for the first time. The children really enjoyed writing them and tried extremely hard.
