Our PE days are TBA . Please make sure that named PE kits are in school every day. 

Learning Logs are sent home on a Wednesday and due back the following Monday. 


Our topic for this half term is:

Isambard Kingdom Brunel

In History, we will learn about the engineer Isambard Kingdom Brunell.
In Science, we will learn about our bodies and heart rate.

In Computing, we will be learning about digital content.
In DT, we will be designing and making our own bridges.

 
Learning Log Bridge Designs

I have been so impressed with the time and effort that children in Y2O have gone to with their bridge designs! We have had some fantastic bridges made at home and really appreciate the support parents have given to help create such brilliant structures. Making Bridges - Day 2: Make

In this lesson we started making our bridges! We looked at our designs to see what materials we had planned to use, and then tested out different structures and materials to try and make our bridges stand up. It was great fun putting our designs into action!

In our first DT lesson we tested different styles of bridges and tried to see which bridges held the most weight. We then designed our own bridges in preparation for making them.

Write Now (Jungle Book) Focus Week

We've had a great Focus Week thinking about our writing skills and using The Jungle Book as a basis for our learning. The children created some 'freeze frames' of scenes from the book, and did some brilliant descriptive writing.

Christmas Party!

Key Stage 1 had a fantastic time at the Christmas party! We played pass the parcel, four corners, and did some relay races in classes. Thank you to all families who generously sent in food - the children had a feast in the afternoon!

DT Super Learning Day

We started the day by reading and discussing 'Where the Wild Things Are'. After thinking about what a wild thing should have, the children planned their own design for their sock puppet. We made them throughout the morning and spent the afternoon evaluating what went well and what could be better next time.

Where's Wally Focus Week

In Around the World (Where's Wally) Focus Week, Year 2 looked at the local area of Pudsey in the morning and wrote some brilliant reports about the town. In the afternoons we received postcards from Wally travelling around the world - to France, South Africa, New York and Japan! The children were fantastic tour guides at New York landmarks and excellent translators of Japanese in Tokyo. Have a look through a few photos of the week to see what we did!

Walk around Pudsey

We started our geography focus week by exploring our local area! We spent the morning walking through Pudsey cemetery, past Pudsey cenotaph and church, and through Pudsey park. The children loved looking at the different animals in the wildlife centre and exploring in the sunshine!

This week we have been writing about Filey (following our visit) and the children created some beautiful seaside collages as well.

Gardening!

This afternoon the class went out to the Key Stage 2 playground and planted some bulbs. They should be blooming in either January or February, so keep an eye out in a few months time!

Science Super Learning Day01 Oct 2018We had a fantastic Science Super Learning Day! We spent the day designing the best way for Astra (from Cakes in Space) to return to planet Earth was....
Maths: Number Lines

In maths this week we worked on being able to visualise a number line by drawing the numbers and putting them in the correct place. We looked at how number lines go up in different scales (1s, 2s, 5s, and 10s) and it was an extra challenge to figure out where to put 25 on a scale measured in 10s!

Filey

Year 2 had a fantastic trip to Filey! We lucked out with the weather and the children were able to build sandcastles, forts, moats and all sorts of other creative constructions. Despite the long coach journey we had a brilliant day and everyone enjoyed an ice lolly in the sunshine.

Place Value

So far this half term we have spent the first few weeks learning about place value of numbers to 100. We have used a number of practical resources to help us understand the idea of 10s and ones, the most common resource being Base 10. In this lesson, children were comparing numbers by making them first and then using the greater than and less than symbols.

To start off the new year we discussed as a class what makes someone special, and what qualities a good friend has. Then we worked in groups to decide which were the most important and what each person could do to be a good friend.
