Back in Time Focus Week. W/C 26/03/18

We travelled back in time to the year 2000 and learnt about lots of things that happened in this year. We created artwork for our very own 'Tate Modern Museum'; We built the Millennium Dome in the outdoor classroom; We read 'Monkey Puzzle' By Julia Donaldson and 'Eat Your Peas' By Kes Gray - both these stories were published in the year 2000; We looked at old pictures of all the teachers and played with some of the toys that were popular back then - we really loved playing on the dance mat!

Grand opening of the climbing frame! W/C 19/03/18

This week in Nursery we FINALLY got to play on our brand new climbing frame. We had an opening ceremony on Tuesday morning (Annabelle and Oliver cut the ribbon) and as soon as the ribbon was cut we were straight onto the frame - we haven't been off it since!

Science Super Learning Day! 16/03/18

Today we became 'mini scientists'. We split into three groups, and rotated between the adults in Nursery to complete three different experiments; the skittles experiment, dancing raisins and a coca cola explosion! Before we started we predicted what was going to happen and then we tested out our predictions. Afterwards we talked about which experiment was our favourite and why. The skittles experiment was a clear favourite because "they all turned into a rainbow."

Mess free colour mixing! 13/03/18

In the creative area today, some of us enjoyed participating in a mess free colour mixing activity. We talked about the 'primary' colours and then we squirted two of these colours into sandwich bags. We sealed the top and then we used our fingers to mix the colours together. We made orange by mixing red + yellow, purple by mixing blue + red and green by mixing yellow + blue.

Using positional language. W/C 12/03/18

This week in Nursery we have enjoyed developing our understanding of 'positional language' using the Bee Bots. We created roads/tracks using large wooden blocks and then we took it in turns to press the correct buttons, to make the Bee Bot move in different ways - forwards, backwards, left, right and to the side.

World Book Day 1st March 2018!

To start World Book Day 2018 we shared books and breakfast with our grown ups. This was lots of fun! We then enjoyed creating our own characters by choosing a head, a body and some legs from familiar characters. We also completed a character hunt around Nursery and enjoyed dressing up as characters too!

Geography Super Learning Day. 26/02/18

As part of our Geography Super Learning Day we learnt about Fairtrade bananas and where they come from. Miss Fitzpatrick explained to us that they are grown in Columbia. The banana trees are looked after by farmers and then when they are fully grown they are sent to the supermarkets. When we buy Fairtrade food from the shop, the farmers get the pennies. We looked closely at the Fairtrade logo and created our own logo using green and blue sticking resources. We also used Fairtrade bananas to make banana milkshake.

Happy Chinese New Year! W/C 19/02/18

We missed Chinese New Year this year because it fell during half term. However, this did not stop us celebrating! Ryan and Annabeth shared their Chinese New Year experiences with us on Monday - they talked about what they did to celebrate. Miss Fitzpatrick read us a story which explained why years get named after animals. We then enjoyed decorating and creating our own hanging lanterns in the mark making area and made dog masks in the creative area. This year is the year of the dog!

Making characters out of plasticine! 01/02/18-05/02/18

We have enjoyed using plasticine to create the characters from the Gruffalo’s child story. We tried really hard with this challenge, some of us found the plasticine hard to manipulate. However, Miss Fitzpatrick was very proud of our learning! Have a look at our photographs and see if you can guess who is who.

Let it snow, let it snow! 28/02/18-01/03/18

The snow does not stop us from doing super learning in Nursery! We have loved spending time in the outdoor classroom, mark making in snow, building snowmen, snow dragons and snow castles! Look at our photographs, do you think we had fun?!

Let it snow, let it snow! 28/02/18-01/03/18
Let's make shadows! W/C 29/01/18

This week in Nursery we have continued our learning in response to the Gruffalo's Child story. We know that the big bad mouse does not exist. When we see him in the story it is just a shadow! We decided to create our own shadows using the torches and stick puppets. We talked about how shadows are made - when light is blocked by an object, and enjoyed making our shadows bigger and smaller by moving the torch 'closer' and 'further away'.

Let's make shadows! W/C 29/01/18
Retelling stories without our teachers! W/C 29/01/18

We loved retelling the Gruffalo's Child story last week and were excited to find that Miss Fitzpatrick had made the 'Gruffalo' area even better when we arrived in Nursery on Monday. We have spent time in this area retelling the story, all by ourselves!

PSHE&C Super Learning Day. 19/01/18

This afternoon we received a special treat from Peter Pan - gummy bear babies! Peter told us that we had to choose, name and look after our very own gummy bear baby. We talked about what we could call our babies and at carpet time we discussed how we would look after them. We spent the afternoon with our babies; cuddling them, tickling them and playing with them. Sadly, some of the gummy bear babies disappeared during the afternoon but to Miss Fitzpatrick's amazement, 6 out of 32 stayed for the full afternoon!

Numbers, Numbers Everywhere! W/C 15/01/18

This week in Nursery some of us have enjoyed taking part in small group visits in the local environment. We went on the hunt for numbers and found lots! We found numbers on: signs, lampposts, cars, doors and gates. If you went on a number hunt around your local environment, which numbers would you find?

Peter Pan Week 2! W/C 15/01/18

This week in Nursery we have continued learning in response to the story of 'Peter Pan'. We had a go at drawing pictures of the characters on big rolls of paper and gave meaning as we drew... We even had a go at writing our letters. On Tuesday we received a letter from Peter Pan which said Captain Hook had destroyed his home in Never Land. Peter asked for our help - could we design him a new home and send him some photographs of our designs? We accepted this challenge and spent lots of time building houses in the construction area with building resources and in the creative area using junk modelling resources!

Peter Pan. Write Now Focus Week. W/C 08/01/18

On Monday morning we arrived to a room full of fairy dust! Who left the fairy dust? Why? Let's make some marks! Mark making in fairy dust was so much fun, we even had a go at making some glue pictures with it! We have really enjoyed learning about and retelling the story of Peter Pan. We have talked lots about the illustrations in the book; the adult scribed what we said whilst some of us had a go at writing labels onto our learning. We ended our action packed focus week by painting pictures of our favourite characters and we completed a Peter Pan movement session which involved pretending to be the characters from the story!

Aha! Oho! A track in the snow! W/C 22/01/18

Guess which story we have been learning about in Nursery this week? Yes you guessed right - The Gruffalo's Child. We used puppets in the reading area to retell the story and we talked lots about the characters the Gruffalo's child met on his way to find the 'Big Bad Mouse'. We looked closely at the marks they left in the snow and we decided to make marks in snow too! We used our 'magic' writing fingers and made trails, prints and tracks. Whilst doing this we sang some songs "The snake is in the snow, the snake is in the snow, ssss, ssss, the snake is in the snow."

Festive Events. W/C 11/12/17

Over the last couple of weeks we have been doing lots of learning in response to a story called 'The Snow Angel' written by Christine Leeson and Jane Chapman. On Monday and Wednesday, after making our own masks, we dressed up like the characters in this story and performed it to our parents/carers. On Thursday we had our Christmas party. We played party games, ate party food and we each received a present from Santa!

Around the World. W/C 27/11/17

We started off focus week by travelling on an aeroplane. Our first stop was India. We learnt about animals that are found in India and enjoyed creating our own animal masks. We talked about Rangoli patterns and drew our own in coloured rice. We even tasted some Indian food! Our next stop was New Zealand. We painted our own flags and used salt dough to make special Koru necklaces. We even learnt how to do the Haka! We have really enjoyed travelling around the world.

The Three Billy Goats Gruff. W/C 20/11/17

This week in Nursery we have enjoyed retelling the story of the Three Billy Goats Gruff. We have spent lots of time learning about this story in our Three Billy Goats Gruff area; using masks and other props to support our learning. In the construction area we have been building bridges for the big bad troll to live underneath - if he has another bridge to live under he will leave the goats alone! We used different construction resources to build our bridges and worked with our friends to build.

We're going on a listening walk! (W/C 16/10/17)

This week in Nursery we read a story called the ‘Listening Walk’. We talked lots about the book and then we went on our own listening walk around the outside of Nursery. We heard lots of different sounds including: birds, trains, cars and the wind blowing the trees. We then used our special listening walk spoons and sticks to make our own sounds.

Working together to get the job done! (W/C 09/10/17)

This week in Nursery we have continued developing our team working skills. We have worked together to complete a number of challenges: shape matching, tower building and our favourite, the big draw! We enhanced the small world area by drawing our own small world environments. We drew tracks and roads for the trains and cars and fields and trees for the animals to play in.

The Star of the Zoo. (W/C 02/10/17)

The Star of the Zoo is a story about animals working together as a team, to help put a star that has fallen into their zoo, back into the sky. This week in Nursery we have completed a challenge in the outdoor classroom which involved working together to transport water from one end of the outdoor classroom to the other. We really enjoyed this challenge. We have also loved playing with the Numberblocks in the maths area. We have been practicing our counting and recognising numerals.

Fluffy's Birthday. W/C 6/11/17- 17/11/17

W/C 6/11/17 - This week in Nursery we have been preparing for Fluffy's fourth birthday. We have enjoyed making our own birthday cards and decorations for his party. We practiced writing our names inside our cards and used shape stamps and paint to make our decorations. We are really looking forward to his party next week! W/C 13/11/17 This week in Nursery we had two (yes two!) surprise parties for Fluffy. We wrote invitations to all our friends and enjoyed handing them out. At the parties we danced, played party games and sung 'Happy Birthday' to Fluffy. He blew out the number four candle on his cake and then he shared his chocolate cake with us. Yum! We have also been practicing our counting skills by counting out candles to stick onto a birthday cake. We practiced counting them with one to one correspondence and talked about what happened when the teacher took some candles away. Some of us also had a go at separating the candles in different ways.

We enjoy learning everywhere! (W/C 18/09/17)

Throughout the year small groups of children take part in planned visits in the community. All children have the opportunity to take part in at least one small group visit during their time in Nursery. This week some of us visited our local ASDA. We talked about all the fantastic things we saw on our walk to ASDA, we posted some letters and we even got to buy some new books!
