Our current Class Reader: A variety of Greek myths

Maths Olympics target: To recall facts about time
Science Topic - Forces and Magnets. Children will compare how things move on different surfaces, observe and predict magnets which attract and repel and identify magnetic material.

History - Ancient Greece. We will be finding out the chronology of events in Ancient Greece, researching daily life and comparing Athens and Sparta.

Monday 15th June - Ancient Greek Day

Year 3 and 4 had an absolutely fantastic day when an Ancient Greek citizen of Athens came to school for the day! In the morning, the children found out about life in Athens and Sparta, learnt about democracy and took part in a vote, played some popular Ancient Greek board games and took part in a quiz. After lunch, an Ancient Greek warrior came and told us all about his armour and what it would be like in battle. The day ended with everyone taking part in an Ancient Greek mini-Olympics! What a busy but fabulous day!

21.5.18 Express Yourself Focus Week Day 1

After launch assembly where the staff revealed their individual identifies, Y3EW made their own crests and drew images that represented their own identities. Later the children made up their own secret handshakes.

As a special treat we went to Reception class to see the new chicks that had been born earlier in the week and the eggs that were still in the incubator. We were shocked when one of the eggs in the incubator moved!!

As part of our geography learning about Greece we found out how the climate affects what grow's there. After, we tried some Greek foods!!

Y3EW practised their racket skills and learned how to make their body into a 'T' shape when serving! What a great effort from everyone!

20.4.18 Science Blast

The children investigated the question, 'How easy is it to draw a star while looking in a mirror?' Some children found it trickier than they predicted! Riya Patel said, "It is hard to draw when you look in the mirror because the mirror makes everything opposite!"

Back in Time Focus Week Day 3 - 28.3.18

Year 3 enjoyed problem solving using a Rubik's cube that was designed in the 1970s! They also enjoyed making music with a stylophone!

Year 3 are going back to the 70s! After watching the teachers on the cat walk during Assembly, Year 3 decided to design clothes for a disco in the 70s!

British Science Week - Science Super Learning Day 16.3.18

Today our learning was all about exploration and discovery! We began by predicting what would happen if we added water to a dish of skittles. Everyone was surprised by what they found when they carried out the experiment! Next, Y3EW set about discovering how the contents of a can affects how far it will roll. After planning a fair test, they carried out the experiment and recorded their results. The last investigation was to discover how to make stripy water! Everyone worked fantastic as a team and made some great scientific discoveries throughout the day.

13.3.18 Science - Rocks

To launch our Science topic of Rocks and Soils we visited Meanwood Valley Urban Farm. After taking a walk through history and investigating rocks, the children took part in 2 workshops where they tested rocks and found out about the contents of soil. To end the day the children then made wormeries which we have brought back to school to observe over time.

After sucking the colour from Smarties, Y3EW decided to investigate whether the colour comes off a Smartie faster in water, salt water or sugar water. All children made a prediction then carried out their experiment. From their results they made a conclusion and found that it came off quickest in water!

The children used the Skitch application on the ipads to show their knowledge of the location of counties in the UK.

19.2.18 - Art (Sketching skills)

To launch our class reader, The Butterfly Lion, we found out all about white lions. Later we developed our sketching skills when we drew a lion. Everyone was super impressed with their art work!

Today Y3EW began their topic about Victorians. They started by finding out when the Victorian era was in history and then created their own timeline of events within the Victorian period.

Today the children designed a new character that could be in the Peter Pan story. They then wrote some super character descriptions. Well done everyone!

After writing character descriptions of their favourite characters from Peter Pan, Y3EW created these fabulous 'Morfos' using the 'Morfo Booth' application on the ipads.

Today the children visited Neverland! They made some amazing maps and used these to write some fabulous setting descriptions.

After an exciting launch assembly, the Children read the first part of J M Barrie's Peter Pan. This inspired them to make a 3d version of the sights of London from the perspective of Peter and Wendy flying over!

5.1.18 - Science - Shadows Investigation

Y3EW carried out an investigation to find out how shadows change when the distance between the light source and the object changes. Some children were very surprised by their results!

On Thursday and Friday, Y3EW became scientists and learned all about light and shadows. They carried out investigations into which materials reflected light the best and which materials would be best at blocking light.

This week was Classic Poetry week in school and Year 3 have been learning the classic poem 'The Owl and the Pussycat'. After performing the original poem they wrote their own fantastic versions. Everyone was very proud of their work.

To create these amazing cards, the children had to accurately measure, cut and fold card. They then had to roll the strips (known as quilling) and glue them to the card.

Y3EW created calendars using pencil skills to blend colour. The added a tree using paint brush skills.

During assembly on Monday morning, Y3EW were shocked to find out that parts of the world map had disappeared! It was their mission to find out about the different countries. They visited each country and found out where it is in the world, the landscape, the culture and lots of other interesting facts. Later they wrote about some of the places they had visited.

Y3EW got a fantastic surprise during Celebration Assembly today when two children were presented with their Achievement Award from Pudsey Bear!!!

On Friday afternoon, Y3EW took part in a Tagtiv8 lesson where they combined PE and maths. After taking tags from each other they found number bonds to 100 - the KIRF (key instant recall fact) target for this half term!

Y3EW had an exciting afternoon exploring forces when they planned and carried out experiments involving creating pressure in a container using vitamin c tablets!

Y3 and 4 had an absolutely fantastic day out at the Media Museum in Bradford where they continued their science learning following on from Space Focus Week. Everyone was amazed at Tim Peake's spacecraft! All children were perfectly behaved and staff were extremely proud of them.

Y3EW really enjoyed their first ukulele lesson. They learned how to play the C chord and some children could even sing along when playing! Brilliant!

In the morning we made space music with every day materials. After lunch, we wrote a diary entry from the perspective of the boy in the story 'The Way Back Home" by Oliver Jeffers, Here are the start of some of our diaries. Are you amazed?

After reading Oliver Jeffers 'The Way Back Home', Y3EW planned their first person diary recount from the perspective of the boy. Later they designed their alien that could be in their story and in the afternoon, they enjoyed using the iPad Application 'Animate IT' to animate part of the story. Everyone is looking forward to their writing tomorrow ...

After an exciting assembly where they were given a capsule containing clues to a newly discovered planet, Y3EW looked in more detail at some of the planets in our Solar System. They could wait no longer, so in the afternoon they cracked open the capsule to reveal the clues!! They had some fantastic ideas about the new planet based on their learning from the morning. They drew their ideas then after, used watercolours to paint their new planet.
