Vegetable Poems

Here are some poems the children have written after exploring vegetables that Mattie, from My Funny Family, might have grown.

Vegetable Poems
Science Blast-paper clip challenge

The children were set the challenge of making a paper clip float in water. As you can see many of them used other resources such as paper to allow them to complete this. Their enthusiasm to succeed was infectious. They were then given a top tip of using another paper clip. The children were amazed when they were successful.

My Funny Family inspired stories

When exploring her garden Mattie, from My Funny Family, discovered a letter addressed to her mum. Read these stories to see what she decided to do with it.

Venus Flytrap

The children came into class to discover a Venus Flytrap. This linked with our Class Reader My Funny Family which shares children's experiences of growing plants. The flytrap came alive and captured a child. Here you can see stories which the children were inspired to write.

Bear Encyclopedia pages

When reading the Enchanted Wood, one of the lands introduced Polar Bears and White Bears. From this we learnt about both types and created encyclopedia pages.

Science Morning with Mark

What a blast we had with Mark! The children planned and carried out a rather messy investigation which looked at the pressure created in a small canister when adding 2 reactants.

National Science and Media Museum

Wow what an amazing trip we had! The children explored many aspects of Science and Media during the visit and were lucky enough to be one of the first schools to experience the impressive Tim Peak's Capsule exhibition.

The Way Back Home Diary

The children wrote a diary from 'the boys' perspective about meeting an alien.

The Way Back Home Diary
The Way Back Home animations

The children used their animation skills for the first time to show the moment when the boy met the Martian in The Way Back Home.

Candy Land Stories

The children designed and wrote about a new land which was found at the top of The Faraway Tree.

The Faraway Tree descriptions

The children have been fascinated by The Enchanted Wood so far. This week we read the chapter where the characters climbed up the tree. From this the children wrote descriptions about what the characters could see on their way up to the cloud.

is here!

This week we are launching the new and exciting maths website and app TT Rockstars in school. TT Rockstars is a great way for children to have fun with their times tables whilst increasing their confidence. Children will be using TT Rockstars in school but we would also like to encourage children to log on at home and play along with their Rockstar.

The Enchanted Wood

After being introduced to the new class reader The Enchanted Wood, children drew what they thought the setting was like from the way the author had described it.
