Back in time focus week!

This week we traveled all the way back to the 1980's! We have looked at very old 80's toys such as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Nintendo NES and My little pony. Inventions such as the Motorola DynaTac, the first Apple computer and boom boxes! Finally the old 80's fashion. Feel free to use the focus week as inspiration to dig out the old leg warmers and shell suits. The children were certainly interested! The children learnt iconic dance moves such as The cabbage patch, The running man and also learnt some moves to the Thriller video! We have made rubix cubes and brilliant boom boxes! The children have brought in some geat 80's artifacts from home and sharing these have been really valuable for all so many thanks to those who sent something in! Have a great easter break!

Toys from the past.

This week year two were very excited to get a talk from Graham Hooper (Joe Hooper's Grandad). It was incredibly exciting for the children and they watched in awe of the amazing stories, facts and toys on offer from Graham. From a real Mr Potato Head (made from real Rooster potato) To the fantastic Meccano cars made many years ago still in good condition. The Toy Museum has been inundated with toys from the past, mostly school staff contributions and Graham kindly allowed us to place his in for the week.

Welcome back Y2P!

This morning we discussed what the children got up to during the holidays. Its fair to say they have all been visited by Santa and had a fantastic time! The children had a go at improving a sentence and making it their own. They worked hard and well in pairs to produce good examples of writing. We also visited the start of our art (sketching) and using light and firm strokes and the differences.

Welcome back Y2P!
Christmas Party and Hand Puppets

This week the children have been finishing off their hand puppets and also enjoyed a Christmas party for their efforts this term and to celebrate this wonderful time of year! It was fantastic fun! However that much food was brought in it will take us the rest of term to get through it! Many thanks to everyone who brought in party food and clothes!

The children have been round the world this week, visiting different teachers and learning about different countries. In Jamaica, they played reggae. In Kenya, they made art. In Japan they made sushi and in India they learned a traditional dance. Finally, they scared the Year 6 teachers with terrifying performance of the Haka. What an amazing week it was!

Puppet Shows

As part of their story writing, children performed puppet shows of their stories first. This helped them become familiar with what they would write about it - as well as entertain each other!

Space Focus Week

What a great start to our focus week! This morning NASA informed us a new solar system had been discovered and each class had to investigate a different planet. We had a special box with some samples from a planet. One bag had green liquid in it and one bag had white sand, different coloured rocks and blue grass! We drew and described what we thought another planet would look like and what we would find there. We learnt how to mix different shades of green and blue to paint pictures of our planet.
