Y2 Christmas Performance

Well done everyone!

Hand Puppets

Today we finished our hand puppets. The children have designed them, drawn and cut out templates and cut and sewn them themselves! They look fantastic! Well done to all the children that persisted with sewing, even though they found it difficult at first.

Trip to the Church

Today we went to Pudsey Parish Church. We learnt about the Christmas story and did some Christmas crafts. Ask your child if they can tell you the story using the pictures or say the rhyme we learnt.

Around the World Focus Week

The children have been round the world this week, visiting different teachers and learning about different countries. In Jamaica, they played reggae. In Kenya, they made art. In Japan they made sushi and in India they learned a traditional dance. Finally, they scared the Year 6 teachers with terrifying performance of the Haka. What an amazing week it was!

Anti-bullying Day

Today is anti-bullying day. We have thought about which adults we can talk to if we feel we are being bullied and ways we can be kind. The theme is 'all different, all equal' so we made a class jigsaw to show this.

Continents of the World

We have been learning all about the 7 continents: North and South America, Europe, Asia, Australasia, Africa and Antarctica. We sang songs and made collages of each one, with the animals, landmarks and food stuck on.

PE

In PE we have been practising different ways to travel: side stepping, galloping, skipping and hop skotching. Today we put them into a routine to music.

Alien habitats

Today we had more information from NASA about what it is like on the new planet. We then made habitats for our aliens so they feel more at home. They had blue grass, lots of rocks and green water.

Life on another planet

Today we had a message from NASA that there was evidence of life found on the planet we have been investigating. We used the clues and our imaginations to make models.

Space Homework

We've had some creative and inventive homework today in Y2CG. We have eaten a cookie solar system, seen a space jigsaw, solar system artwork and a playdough model. We also had a scaled down sun and earth with their distance apart measured on a piece of string. It was so far that we had to stretch the string all the way across the playground and to the car park! Thank you to all the parents who helped with this learning.

Space Focus Week

What a great start to our focus week! This morning NASA informed us a new solar system had been discovered and each class had to investigate a different planet. We had a special box with some samples from a planet. One bag had green liquid in it and one bag had white sand, different coloured rocks and blue grass! We drew and described what we thought another planet would look like and what we would find there. We learnt how to mix different shades of green and blue to paint pictures of our planet.

Science Learning

We are learning about materials. The children came up with a test to see what sounds different materials make and how loud they are. We then did some writing about their properties.

Cakes in Space Recount

These children did a brilliant job saying a recount in front of the whole class. The audience were listening for time openers and past tense verbs. Tomorrow We will use them in our writing.

RE Learning

This half term our RE topic is 'How to Care for our Planet'. To start with we started thinking about what we love about our planet. Next we will look into different beliefs as to how our planet begun.

Cakes in Space

This half term out literacy learning is based on our class reader 'Cakes in Space'. We have been reading the story and writing recounts about different parts. This week is when Nom-O-Trom starts making scary cakes and Astra is trying to escape!
