This week we enjoyed learning about the Ring-tailed Lemur and the Black and White Ruffed Lemur - where they live, what they eat, how they move and what they look like. We talked about saving the trees to save the Lemurs and designed and decorated our own trees to create a 'Rainforest' for the Lemur's to live in. Towards the end of the week we received an e-mail from Larry Lemur explaining somebody had cut down his home (his tree!). We used different materials to build a new home for Larry and his Lemur friends to live in.

Rainbow Factory 6th and 9th June 2017

The Rainbow Factory came into school this week and performed Little Red Riding Hood. We enjoyed joining in their performance, especially when we used our magic fingers and said some magic words "Abracadabra, open this book, bippity boppity boom!" After performing the story, we then spent time retelling it by ourselves. Afterwards we sat down with our friends and had some juice and biscuits. Yum! Thank you to the Friends of Pudsey Primrose Hill for our special treat. We had lots of fun!

Goldilocks and the Three Bears W/C 08/05/17

After reading 'The Jolly Postman' last week we decided to do some learning about one of the characters from the story, Goldilocks. We started off the week by retelling the story as a group, using different props. We then enjoyed retelling the story in different ways, for example, putting on a 'show' using the puppet theatre. We read two different versions of the story and had a go at making up our own endings, which we then acted out. We also spent time exploring with dry oats and wet oats. This was lots of fun, sticky fun!

On The Move Focus Week W/C 27/03/17

We have had a very busy focus week in Nursery. We designed vehicles - small and large and then used junk modelling resources to create our own vehicles. We enjoyed creating a bus in the outdoor classroom and used this bus in our pretend play - picking our friends up from the 'Bus Station.' We talked about 'past' and 'present' vehicles and used the Interactive White Board (IWB) to find pictures of old and new vehicles. Finally, to finish our busy week we pretended to be different vehicles and moved around the classroom in different ways, for example, a train, an airplane, a bike and a bus whilst singing lots of rhymes.

Super Science!

On Monday (13th March 2017) it was 'Super Science Learning Day.' Our Science experiment involved exploring different materials and explaining why some materials would be better to use to fix Benji’s (Miss F’s dog) 'ripped' bed than others. We enjoyed feeling different materials; with our hands, our faces, and even our heads! We named some of the materials and we were able to use descriptive vocabulary to describe what the materials looked and felt like. We also talked about how strong the materials were after they had been soaked in water and whether different materials ‘absorbed’ water or not. On Tuesday (14th March 2017) we continued our Science learning by doing the 'skittles experiment.' Miss F was unfamiliar with this activity but Ida helped her out by explaining to her how to do it. Not only did we pour water over the skittles, we also poured baby lotion and shaving foam over the skittles. Then we talked as a group about what was happening and why!

Let's go on holiday! --> This week in Nursery we have enjoyed using large boxes to create different types of vehicles. After creating our vehicles we talked about places we would like to go. Africa was a very popular destination! We created our passports, packed Miss Fitzpatrick's suitcase and then off we went on the airplane. It was a bumpy ride because it was VERY windy! When we arrived in Africa we went swimming, we sunbathed and we ate ice-creams! Super Maths Learning! --> We have enjoyed using the weighing scales to weigh different objects. We described what happened to the scales when we added objects into the containers and discussed the difference between 'heavy', 'light' and 'things that weighed the same.' We also predicted what would happen to the containers if we added more objects!

The way back home 23rd and 24th February 2017

This week in Nursery we read the story 'The way back home' by Oliver Jeffers. We talked lots at carpet time about what we would do if we found an airplane in the cupboard and then did some super writing and drawing with Miss Fitzpatrick. Please have a look at the pictures of our learning. We are very proud of our drawings and name writing and some of us even had a go at labelling our drawings; without help! Some of our learning over the next few days will be focused on this story. If you've never read this story before I highly recommend it!

Write Now Focus Week - The Dark

We have had a VERY busy week in Nursery doing lots of learning around a story called 'The Dark.' We started the week off by reading a few pages of the book. We stopped reading at a page which included a picture of a door. We talked about what we thought might be behind the door and then drew pictures using pencils, black paper and chunky coloured chalks! We then talked about the describing words used in the story e.g. dark, smooth and cold. With these describing words in mind we explored black slime and felt objects hidden inside different boxes whilst blindfolded! Talking about the dark got us thinking about night time and animals that play out at night time. We learnt two new words DIURNAL and NOCTURNAL and then painted pictures of nocturnal animals. We also talked lots about feelings and used feelings masks to help us with our learning.

Write Now Focus Week - The Dark
I'm Stick Man, I'm Stick Man, I'm Stick Man that's me!

In Nursery this week we have been very busy! We have enjoyed listening to the story of Stick Man and playing in the Stick Man area in Nursery. We did lots of talking about the story and decided to go on our own adventure to rescue Stick Man's friends from the outdoor area. We then used the stick 'friends' we had found to create lots of wonderful things e.g. fishing rods. We did some measuring and size ordering with the sticks and created our own stick people.

I'm Stick Man, I'm Stick Man, I'm Stick Man that's me!
Bright Sparks

On Monday morning the children found out that Dr Doom had been into Nursery and taken some of the lights! The children were extremely excited about this and enjoyed exploring different types of light, deciding which was the brightest and the best type of light to help us see better. We have spent time in the dark tent outside, using the torches whilst we read stories and created shadows. We really enjoyed creating big and small shadows. Dr Doom asked us to trace around our shadows - this was fun and Dr Doom loved seeing pictures of our learning. We have done lots of super learning about light sources and non-light sources; sorting them into groups on the interactive white board and playing snap! We have played the traffic light game in the outdoor classroom, we have explored colour by placing different materials in front of the torches and we have loved playing on the light box! Nursery have had a very busy, very fun week!

Bright Sparks
Pumpkin explorers.

We have been learning all about the things that happen in Autumn. We have read fiction and non-fiction books and we have looked at pictures of fruit that grows in Autumn. Miss Fitzpatrick brought a pumpkin into Nursery for us to play with. We scooped out the middle and enjoyed exploring with the insides of the pumpkin including the "slippy, sloppy, slimey seeds!"

Pumpkin explorers.
Let's Celebrate!

We have had a busy few weeks in Nursery preparing for Fluffy's special day. We began by making our own party invitations, making sure to invite all of our Nursery friends and Fluffy's family. We drew pictures of what we thought Fluffy's family might look like and then we created our own shopping lists. Some of the children went on a trip to Asda to buy all the items off of their shopping lists. We really enjoyed this! Finally, it was party day! We prepared the food, we danced together, we played games and we ate lots of yummy food. We hope Fluffy enjoyed his special day, we had lots of fun.

Let's Celebrate!
Apple crumble.

We used the apples we collected whilst fruit picking to make an apple crumble. At group time we listened to a story whilst we ate our apple crumble. It tasted yummy!

Apple crumble.
The spider web challenge.

This week in Nursery we have enjoyed making our way through the spider web. We practiced balancing on one foot, crouching, stepping and moving in different ways. We had lots of fun!

The spider web challenge.
Fruit picking.

We have enjoyed fruit picking in Nursery this week. We have never visited the orchard. We found this new experience VERY exciting. We spoke about the different types of fruit we could see and then we twisted the apples and pulled the pears carefully off of the trees; counting carefully as we placed the apples and pears into the baskets! We are going to use the apples we collected to make an apple crumble. We can't wait!

Fruit picking.
Another busy week in Nursery...

We have done lots of fantastic learning this week! Dough disco - We manipulated playdough in response to music. Ribbon sticks - We have been doing lots of learning around the Giraffes Can't Dance story in Nursery and have loved dancing like the animals in the story. We made our own ribbon sticks to use at our very own Jungle Dance! Cardboard Box Play - We have enjoyed engaging in imaginative play with the large cardboard boxes outside. We created boats, trains, cars and aeroplanes and loved pretending we were travelling to different places! Music and Movement - We have learnt the names of many different instruments and have practised using the instruments appropriately whilst counting to the date and whilst dancing like Gerald the giraffe!

Another busy week in Nursery...
Shape Sandwiches!

We enjoyed making our own sandwiches in Nursery this week. We practiced spreading jam/cheese onto our bread and folding the bread in half. We then pressed shapes into the bread to create shape sandwiches. We ate our sandwiches for snack. They were yummy!

Shape Sandwiches!
What we like is...

This week in Nursery we briefly learnt about the differences between 'Fiction' and 'Non-Fiction' books. We then decided as a group we would make our own non-fiction shared book. We spoke about the things we liked and then we worked closely with the other children in Nursery to create our very own book. The children drew some lovely illustrations and thoroughly enjoyed being the 'author's of their own book!

What we like is...
Treasure Boxes!

The children have loved bringing their treasure boxes into Nursery this week, filled with lots of things they like including photographs, drawings and toys. This has really helped all the children and staff in Nursery get to know each other better. The children looked at their treasure boxes as a group and did some lovely speaking about the things they like, why they liked them and which of the things inside their boxes were their favourite!

Treasure Boxes!
Our first week back at Nursery.

The Nursery children have settled quickly back into Nursery life and are enjoying making lots of new friends. The children have loved playing and exploring and have spent lots of time accessing our new areas of provision. Our seaside area, the music and movement area and our home corner which is now back (it has previously been a bus station, a baby clinic and so on!) have all been areas of increased interest.
