Children enjoy learning through play, and often talk about their learning as play. Learning in Reception is through real, meaningful experiences, which provide inspiration, challenge and ideas for future learning. Self- initiated play and adult led and directed learning, supports children in further developing areas of interest and ensures access to a wide range of opportunities.  We look forward to sharing all of this with you, in part, through this class page.

Firefighters!

We had a visit from more real life superheroes today, when the fire engine and some firefighters came to our school. One firefighter used to do his job a long time ago and his uniform was very different to the new ones! We had lots of fun finding out about how the different parts of the engine worked and what all the apparatus was used for.

Wild things

We have loved learning about Max and the Wild things from 'Where the Wild Things are' We used modelling clay to make our own Wild Things to inspire some writing. We made some pretty scary creatures! Have a look! Which one do you think is the wildest?

Autumn writing!

Thank you to all the children that went on an Autumn walk and brought in some signs of Autumn. We decided to share them altogether. We looked closely at the things we found and thought of words to describe them. In literacy we have been using our phonics to sound out the words and write them. We did a fantastic job of listening to the sounds and writing them. Have a look!!

Art Super Learning Day

Today we had an Art Super Learning Day. Children across school dropped everything to pick up a pencil and draw. Children in Reception focused on looking closely at things we want to draw and trying to draw what we can see rather than whats in our head. We talked about critique and looking at our work to see how we can make it better and then re drawing our drawing. We had a great time drawing lots of different things; pumpkins and flowers, using shadows, drawing what we had built, taking photo's of our friends facial features and drawing them and exploring with mark making and sculpture. We found out we are ALL artists!

Look at our London film.

This is the film Reception K made for the whole school Travel Guide! We loved it.

London learning!

This week in school has been a focus week. Children in Reception K were taken on a journey on their very own bus to the fantastic city of London. We played in our role play bus and wrote tickets for our friends. We learnt all about the London eye in Maths and we made boats to go down the River Thames. We looked at books and listened to the story of Charlie and Lola and their school trip to the city! We love London in Reception K!
