Delicious and nutritious!

Year 5 spent our Health and Medicine Focus Week learning about calories in food and why too much of a good thing can cause problems. As part of their learning, children worked on designing low-calorie alternatives to some tasty dishes. Everyone then made the winning recipe - fully-loaded nachos - and enjoyed a guilt-free snack!

I Feel Good!

As part of our Express Yourself Focus Week, Y5N learnt and performed the James Brown classic 'I Feel Good'. This was done from scratch with no backing track - children chose either to play an instrument they are learning (guitar and violin), glockenspiel or percussion, or to sing. Performing music live is a difficult thing to master, especially when you are new to an instrument, and everyone showed a lot of perseverance and effort in practice.

Stone Age Dance

As part of our Stone Age to Iron Age theme, children worked in groups during PE lessons to choreograph their own dance routines. The way the groups explored the movements of hunters and their prey showed off the children's creativity and ability to work in teams.

Leeds Schools U11 Cricket Tournament

Ten children from years 5 and 6 traveled to Farsley Cricket Club to take part in the West Leeds section of the city's schools U11 cricket tournament. The team, which featured several players who were playing their first competitive games of cricket, acquitted themselves very well on and off the pitch, winning their first group game before narrowly losing the next three to some strong opposition to miss out on the semi-finals. Well done to all involved and keep playing!

On the Throne Focus Week

After learning about the coronation and early reign of Queen Victoria, we applied our geometry skills to designing new coats of arms for Kings and Queens of England throughout the ages. See if you can guess which monarch each one is for!

Sweet Science!

For our Science Super Learning Day, we focused on all things sweet, learning about the science behind sugar production before investigating its properties and designing our own experiments.

Herd Farm - Trip to an Iron Age camp

Both Year 5 classes traveled back in time to get a taste of life in the Iron Age at the fantastic Herd Farm model village, complete with roundhouses, face-painting and warrior skills.

Children's Golden character animations

Using the idea of creating the super heroes to try was then used by the children to animate a story where the hero helped to stop the golden character

French Weather Reports

Children worked hard on using their French pronunciation to give a weather report in French.

We have created Superheros to try and fend off the mysterious golden character and protect our school. Here you can see some of their impressive designs, descriptions and comic strips.

The Globe Theatre - report writing

As part of our learning about Shakespeare, we have learnt about 'The Globe Theatre' and how it has developed over the years. I am sure these reports will provide you with an impressive range of information.

Shakespeare Story performances

Here you can see some of the examples of plays performed this week. The children write their own Shakespeare story form 'The Lost Years'. They then worked hard to put this into a performance. I am sure you will agree we have some actors/actresses in the making.

William Shakespeare Biographies

Here you can see some wonderful examples of the biographies children have written after learning about William Shakespeare life.
