The children were learning all about the Jewish religion. They visited the Jewish Heritage Centre where they went into a synagogue and looked at artefacts linked to the religion. The children then wrote non-Chronological reports about the religion.

Health and Medicine Focus Week

The children had a busy week. First they learnt about healthy eating and designed their own healthy drink. The children also enjoyed the opportunity to try fencing when a coach came in to teach them. Towards the end of the week, the children learnt about medicines and the lie of Alexander Fleming.

The children have been learning about Greek Myths. The children designed, made and described their own mythical beast.

Art- The children used Charcoal to create a piece of art work. They drew a wood land scene. Here are some examples.

Science Blast- The children investigated how to perform a fair test this week. The children were given some equipment and the question : Which Kitchen Roll is the strongest when wet. They then had to decide how to investigate it and make sure it was fair. The children did really well and had lots of good ideas.

Day 4 Focus Week

The children made puppets for their puppet show and then performed them in front of the class. Then the children made up songs using the ukulele and learnt how to do chair drumming. The children wrote play scripts about how all the happy cartoon characters persuade Eeyore to be happy. In the afternoon the children went into the Grove to perform and they used Garage Band to create a piece of music.

The children wrote poems about Happiness and what it is. They then used the stimulus of a piece of art to create something to represent it. Some children wrote songs, poems, wrote a diary, performed a play or wrote a rap. In the afternoon we worked with a visitor to learn how to play the boomwhacker.

Day 1

The children brought in things that represent happiness. They then drew or painted a picture to represent happiness. After this the children created their own wordle of things that make them feel happy. In the afternoon all of year 3/4 rehearsed for the performance to parents.

Athens vs Sparta

The children found out about the two different cities Athens and Sparta. The children received a letter from an Athenian boy telling them about his life. The children then wrote a reply pretending they were from Sparta.

Flowering Plants

The children investigated the parts of a flower by cutting up different flowers. We also started to grow two bean plants to see the process they go through from seed to plant.

The children did their own Ancient Greek pot designs. They made them represent some part of Greek life or some of the patterns used.

W/c 25th April. We started our Ancient Greece topic by finding out about the daily life of people living at this time. We then wrote Information Pages about the topic. Here are some examples.

Georgia O'Keefe

The children sketched flowers in the style of Georgia O'Keefe and then they used water colours to add colour to their picture. They all did a fantastic job.

On Friday 22nd April the children wrote persuasive brochures persuading someone to visit Greece on holiday. Here are some of the examples.

The children started the new topic about the artist Georgia O'Keefe. The children learnt how to use different shades using water colours.

W/c 21st April. To start our Ancient Greece topic we learnt about where Greece is and what modern day Greece is like. We use Puppet Pals to make travel guides about the country.

Day 4

The children worked together to write a scene from a play about Henry VIII's life. The children then made puppets and props and performed their play.

Focus Week Day 2 and 3

The children made one of Henry's wives crests using tracing skills and tissue paper. The children then wrote a fact file about one of the wives. The next day we learnt about Henry's life and the children wrote a biography of his life.

Day 1 On the Throne Focus Week

On Tuesday 29th March the children started the focus week 'On the Throne'. It started with an exciting assembly where the children found out that they were learning about Henry VIII. They spent the morning finding out about the king and then drew and painted portraits. In the afternoon we worked with a visitor and made an IMovie about Henry and his wives.

w/c 21st March. The Science topic for the week was 'Light. The children learnt about how we see things using the light, how shadows are formed and why we need to look after our eyes. The children made their own Puppet Pals videos about how to look after their eyes.

Over the Spring term we learnt about the Victorian Artist William Morris. To end the unit of work we created an individual tile in the style of his work. The children did a fantastic job and they were very proud of the finished product.

Sport Relief

On Friday 18th March it was Sport Relief and all the children in school got the opportunity to have a go on a rowing machine. The aim was for us to row the equivalent of the length of the English Channel. The children also had a step challenge where they had to do as many steps as there is up the Eiffel Tower. One group got all the way up and then went half way down.

The children found out about an incident that happened in school involving the teachers. The children then because news reporters to report the news that 3 teachers got locked in school over the weekend.

RE

On Thursday 17th March the children learnt about the Torah and why it is important to Jewish people. The children then create their own Torah scroll with rules they think are important to live by.

Science Super Learning Day

On Wednesday 16th March we had a Science Super Learning Day in school. The children had a fantastic day exploring different scientific concepts. We did different investigations including which fat melts the quickest?, which liquids will freeze? and do fairy bubbles really last the longest?

We went on a school trip to Owlcotes to link with our Local Study topic. The children asked local people questions linked to their Geography topic. We also did a Maths trail around Asda and used pencil skills to sketch the centre.

The children have been learning about Pudsey in the past and what life was like in Pudsey. They also looked at whether it was right to build Owlcotes shopping centre on the fields. Here are some of the letters they wrote either persuading someone to build the shopping centre or persuading someone not to build it.

World Book Day 2016

On Thursday 3rd March it was world book day. The children all dressed up as a character from a book. We listened to different stories being read and then wrote our own setting description for a forest. Here are the children in their costume and the writing that they did.

We learned about our skeleton and what some of the main bones in the skeletal system were called. We also learnt what jobs our skeleton does and why we need one.

Monday 22nd March

On Monday afternoon, some teachers visited school to teach the children some different Science objectives. We linked it to our new Science topic: 'Animals including humans'. The children had a fantastic afternoon carrying out different investigations linked to our bodies and different animals.

The children used the Ipads to create a puppet show using the app 'Puppet Pals'. It was the first time they had used this app and they really enjoyed showing their learning in this way.

The children made their own book which followed on from the story 'Shh we have a plan'. They first acted out the stories and then created story plans.

Day 2 Write Now Focus Week

On Day 2 the children focused on the bird in the story. They drew pictures of their own birds and then wrote the story from the birds perspectives. In the afternoon the children then used different skills to make their own birds.

The children were in role as the bird and saying what happened in the story.

After an exciting assembly in the hall the children listened to the story Shh!! We have a plan. They children discussed questions linked to the book and thought of their own questions to discuss. The children then designed the world that they imagined the bird lived in. In the afternoon the children wrote setting descriptions for their worlds.

The children have been learning about 3D shapes. They used straws and plasticine to make 3D models.

Following on from the trip the children wrote stories about one of the characters that they learnt about.

Thackray Medical Museum Trip

The children had a brilliant day at the museum. In the morning we were able to explore the differ parts of the museum and then in the afternoon we took part in a workshop and walked down the Victorian street.

The children learnt about Victorian mills and factories. We created our own Mill and wrote a job advert to persuade people to come and work at our mill.

On Wednesday 13th January the children and staff in Year 3/4 came to school dressed in Victorian clothes. The children took part in a mock Victorian classroom, a Victorian PE lesson and worked as historians looking at things from our own school. We had a brilliant day!

On Wednesday 6th January we launched our new topic for this half term: The Victorians. We started by going into the hall where we flew back in time to the Victoria era. The children then made timelines in the classroom so they understood where he was placed in History.

We read Where the Wild things as a class. The children then did lots of work around the story. Some of the children then wrote the story changing elements of the story and some children wrote from the perspective of the Wild Things. Here are some examples.

Science Blast

This week we looked at smells linked to the Year 3/4 topic of Solids, Liquids and gases. The children had to identify different smells in pots. This was linked to our work on 'Where the Wild Things Are.' Smells included: banana, shampoo, coffee.

Jan 5th 2016 - URGENT INFORMATION
 
Due to the recent floods our forthcoming trip to Amrley Mills has had to be cancelled due to the mill currently having no electricity or heating making it unsuitable for them to open on health and safety grounds. We are pleased however to announce that we have managed to secure another Victorian costume trip to the Thackray Medical Museum where we will take part in the Victorians alive workshop. (http://www.thackraymedicalmuseum.co.uk/learning-outreach/school-visits/ ) A letter explaining this and all other information (such as dates, travel arrangements and cost) will be sent out ASAP. Thank you for your understanding in this matter but as you can appreciate it really is beyond anyone’s control.
 
To begin our Victorian topic, we are asking all children to come to school dressed in their Victorian costumes on Wednesday 13th Jan 2016. A letter detailing this and some costume ideas (should you need them) will be sent out on Wednesday 6th Jan 2016.

W/c 14th December. The children used their DT and art skills to create some Santa pop up cards and some Santa pictures. Here are some pictures to show how they did it and the finished work.

On Wednesday 16th December the children had a Christmas party. We played games and had lots of fun. Here are some pictures.

W/C 14.12.15 Children used fine paint brushes and collage to create their four seasons calendars. The children did a fantastic job. Here are all the children with their calendars.

Rocks and Soils

W/c 7.12.15. The children followed on from the work on fossils to learn about rocks and soils. The children sorted different rocks and learnt about how they are formed. We then went out to look at soil and the children brought some in from home so we could compare the different soils. We were then able to see what is in soil. At the end of the week children wrote a report about rocks, soils and fossils.

The children have been learning about how fossils are formed. They started the week by investigating some fossils and saying what they think they were. The children then shared how they thought they were formed. We then looked at the fossils story by Bill Thompson. Throughout the week they completed writing tasks linked to the story. At the end of the week they wrote their own versions of the story. They were fantastic!!! Here are some examples and some pictures from the week.

In the News
Day 5

The children have had a fantastic day and they were all very excited to find out who the mysterious Goldman was. The big reveal happened in assembly when the children found out that all of the teachers had been the cheeky Goldman. Thank you to all of the parents that were able to come into school on Friday afternoon to look at all of the children's work. Here is some of the work that was displayed. The children created their own superhero which would be able to defeat the naughty Goldman. They then wrote their own comics about battle between the two.

Day 2 In the News

The Goldman has caused more havoc in school. The children had to make press releases to make the public aware of the naughty Goldman. Please watch the videos carefully so you can keep an eye out for this mysterious person.

Bonfire Night Description

On Friday 6th November we wrote a setting description of a bonfire night scene. The children tried hard to add some challenging adjectives to describe what they could see, hear, taste, feel and smell.

On Thursday 5th November we wrote our own descriptive poems with repeating lines. Here are some examples of these fantastic poems.

On Wednesday 4th November we made our own 'fireworks' by mixing oil, water and red food colouring. The children predicted what would happen when we mixed the oil and water. They then watched what happened and learnt about why the oil and water didn't mix. Some of the children predicted that the oil and water would make an explosion, others said it would make a pretty pattern.

October 2015 In Science we have been learning about forces and magnets. We investigated magnets and carried out some investigations. We then carried out a fair test into the effect the surfaces have on the speed of a car. Here are some photos.

The children found out about the artist Peter Thorpe who paints a lot of space pictures. The children looked at his paintings and then created their own with pastels.

BREAKING NEWS: SATELLITE CRASHES!!!

DAY 3- Today we discovered a satellite had crashed in the KS2 playground. The children went outside to investigate what had happened. They then became news reports when they acted out the story and then wrote newspaper articles. Here are some of the recorded news reports.

Today we learnt about Neil Armstrong and different space missions. The children wrote some informative sentences and then drew a portrait of Neil.

We learnt about the Earth and what different parts of the earth are called. We then drew what we thought space looked like. After that we did an experiment to test how gravity works. We found that if there is no air objects will fall at the same speed.
