Welcome to Y34KB

"The Great Outdoors"
This week our learning is centred around the theme "The Great Outdoors".
Please remember to bring hats, suncream and water bottles to school every day this week so that we can make the most of the summer weather.
Creating an Outdoor Living Area

Our Learning Log challenge was to design an outdoor living space. In the classroom, we shared our ideas in House Teams, collected natural materials from around the school field and created an outdoor living area. Which team's area would you choose to live in?

International Focus Week Monday 3rd June - Friday 7th June 2013

International Focus Week has taken Y3/4KB on a Learning Journey to the Caribbean Islands.  We have learnt some songs from the Caribbean and recreated the soundtrack from the film Pirates of the Caribbean.  Making a map of the islands was quite a big Geography challenge - we have also written some fantastic travel brochures to persuade people to take us there on holiday!

Exploring the setting for the film has given us the opportunity to act like pirates and write the next scene.  We have studied the history of the city of Port Royal (Kingston, Jamaica) to discover why the movie makers chose it as their location for the harbour scenes.  Entrepreneurial teams worked hard to share ideas for how the city could be renovated in order to improve tourism to the island.

Maths Super Learning Day Monday 20th May 2013.

Our focus today has been on lots of aspects of numbers. In PE we generated number problems in groups and worked together to make whole numbers and decimal numbers.

We made muffins today which involved using a lot of our maths skills. We used our knowledge of ratio and proportion to work out the recipes and fractions for the sharing part. They were delicious! Even the bonkers muffins which contained blueberries, banana beetroot and broccoli - yes broccoli!

Go-Givers Presentation

Eight children from Y3/4KB took part in a celebration event at Leeds Metropolitan University on Tuesday 26th March as part of the 'Make a Deffierence Challenge' supported by www.gogivers.org. The event was organised by the Citizenship Foundation and was also attended by four other schools in order to showcase the work they have been doing to make a difference to a chosen cause. Y3/4KB had chosen to make a difference to the homeless people of Leeds and have been working closely with people from St George's Crypt. They gave a great performance on the day. Have a look at the videos to see our star presenters and singers!!
