Day 2 All Creatures Great and Small

We learnt about food chains today and the children created their own food chains using the Ipads to help them to research about the different animals. The children then created videos to show their understanding.

On day 1 of the focus week we visited Meanwood Urban Farm. We learnt about different rocks and when they were formed. We also learnt about what soil is made up of and made our own wormeries. At lunch time the children explored the farm and looked at the animals. They were very lucky to see some week old piglets.

The children created poems describing Newquay they also used rhyming couplets in their poems.

After experiencing life in Newquay on Monday, the children wrote leaflets to persuade people to visit there on their holiday.

Y3/4C go on a bus trip to Newquay

On Monday 1st June Y3/4C went on a trip to Newquay. We spent the morning at the beach, look at pictures and trying some of the food from Cornwal.

The children wrote newspaper reports about the school build. In the afternoon they designed a new school logo.

Day 2- Apprentice Focus Week

On day 2 of the focus week we completed a Maths challenge to work within a budget. We then wrote some persuasive paragraphs to persuade the builders to choose our design for the Extended Services Room. We then created adverts for the new room. We have been asked to take part in a new road sign design so we created our designs using our Learning Logs to help us. Also in the morning Mrs Parker came in to work with some of the children to show them how to draw plans for the inside of a building to scale. It was a fantastic session.

Day 1- The children found out about their task today. They have been given the task to design, pitch, persuade and advertise the new extended services room. Here are some pictures of how they got on today.

Mary Anning

W/C11th May. This week our Science topic has been Evolution and Inheritance. We looked at Mary Anning and her impact on Science. We then wrote biographies about Mary Anning. The children found it very interesting and wrote some great biographies.

On Friday 1st May we wrote our own Viking stories. Here are some examples.

W/c 20th April the children learnt about when the Vikings invaded England and the invasions between them and the monks/King Alfred. They created top trump cards and they drew portraits

Transport

We continued our learning from On the Move focus week and looked at transport for the future. We designed our own vehicles and then completed a piece of persuasive writing.

Day 4 and 5

Over the last few days we have been learning about steam boats and we found out about the famous Titanic ship. We filmed news reports, drew pictures and wrote some messages to loved ones. Here is some of our learning.

On Tuesday we travelled back in time on our magical time machine. We then created a timeline for how transport has developed over time. We then looked at Victorian steam trains and made our own carriage. On Wednesday we wrote brochures for the steam trains. We also completed a Science experiment looking at forces and friction.

Day 1- Digger day

To start the focus week we surprised the children by organising with the builders for the children to sit on some of the machinery. It was a fabulous start to the focus week. The children then used this to design their own transformer. They then wrote stories about the transformers taking over the school.

Y3/4 Trip to York

On Friday 13th March all the Y3/4 children went to York for the day. We spent the morning at the National Railway Museum and the afternoon at the Yorvik centre.

Viking homes

w/c 9th March. We found out about Viking homes, jobs and clothes. The children did research using the Ipads. Then on Thursday the children wrote a description of a Viking home.

We have been learning about how the Vikings travelled to Britain and the problems they faced. The children wrote diaries wearing their Viking helmets.

The children made a gruesome discovery- Alice had been murdered. The children then wrote newspaper reports and completed a trial of the wonderland characters. We found out that it was the White Rabbit who had commited this awful crime.

Over the last few days the children have been writing their own books based on the Alice in Wonderland stories. Here are some of the children reading their stories with great expression. I have been very proud of the children this week with the amount of effort they have put into these stories. They are very exciting!!! Enjoy!

Animations- Today we created our own animations based on Alice in Wonderland. We use the ipads and the app called Animate. The children did a fantastic job. Come back later in the week to watch our animations.

Roman Invasion!

On Monday 5th Januray Year 3/4 children were informed about some objects found around school. The children went to investigate and realised they were from the Roman period. Objects included a helmet, a shield, coins, clothes, maps, a piece of wood with Roman numerals on.

On Monday 15th December we made our class Christmas cards for our family. We had a lovely afternoon and the children were very proud of their cards.

What a start to the week! A fantastic assembly which we began by being led by torches to the hall in the dark. We then discussed how electricity worked and drew our own lightening pictures. In the afternoon we experimented with how light a bulb.

We all came to school dressed up as either something we wanted to be when we are older or a character from a book. We had- dancers, singers, artists, footballers, chefs, Simon Cowell and many more.

Volcanoes

This week (wc 13.10.14) we have been learning about volcanoes. We looked at how volcanoes were formed and where they are found. We then watched a film clip about a volcano eruption. Italy stories

Over the first few weeks of the year we have been learning about Italy. The children wrote some imaginative stories about being on holiday in Italy. Here are some fantastic examples. Well done Emily, Jessica and Evie!

We looked at pictures of different cities and then chose one to write about. The children had to try and describe them so the other children could guess the city. See if you can work out which city the children are describing.

Today we made some Italian food, the children did a fantastic job chopping the food. We then described the taste and we wrote our own poems. In the afternoon we collected data about cities and made our own graphs. We also carried on making our own model of the colosseum.

Day 1- We found out about our chosen city- Rome. We sketched different monuments in Rome and then used the Ipads to research about them. In the afternoon we became tour guided and described the reasons to visit Italy. We also started making our own class Colosseum.
