National Science Week 16.3.15

In Y1J we have completed two Science Blast experiments this week. We talked about our senses and how they all work together. We tested how well our sense of taste works without our sense of smell. We did this by holding our noses and tasting 2 types of food with the same texture, a piece of apple and potato. We voted on which one we thought was the apple/potato. We concluded that it was hard to tell the difference between the two when using only one of our senses. We have also completed a Science Blast to do with mixing liquids and how they can have different qualities. We talked about examples of mixing liquids together in our daily routines e.g. water and cordial, water and milk in tea, shampoo and water. We then predicted what would happen when water and oil were mixed together and carried the experiment out. The children concluded that water and oil don't mix and we discussed why.
