This year in Primrose Hill is the year of Positive Thinking.
Learning in Reception happens within children’s play and through small focused activities with an adult. Often children will talk about their learning as play. Provision within the classroom is designed for children to engage, explore and learn. Giving children real life experiences allows them to express themselves and learn within the real world. Listening to children and tailoring learning to their interests and needs maximises learning opportunities.
Please remember if you have any questions, queries or concerns about you child and their learning then please come and speak with me or any member of the Reception team. I will be in the playground every morning and afternoon.
Key Dates and Information:

Workshops
This is an opportunity for family members to work alongside the children. All the children enjoy experiencing working alongside different adults whether a member of their family is there or not. Come along whenever you can; workshop is every Monday from 2.25-3.15pm. Please wait by the gate near the front of school by 2.25pm.

 Getting ready for Year One

Throughout this final half term we are preparing the children for Year One.  Our visit to the Yorkshire Wildlife Park was the start of this as we encouraged the children to sit with a friend from Mrs Alderson's class whilst they ate their lunch.  The children can do this everyday in school but doing it when you are out of school is a more memorable and exciting experience.
We are joining in with Key Stage 1 playtimes each morning and will be meeting Year One staff as they visit Reception to join in with our learning challenges.  There will be three occasions when the children spend the morning with their new teacher.  After the first visit towards the end of June, your child will bring a letter home to ensure you are fully informed about who your child's new teacher will be.
Classes are made up of children from both Reception classes combined to form two new classes.
Transition into Year One is well planned for and the curriculum and environment for learning continues to support children in accessing areas of provision whilst continuing to increase the level of adult directed and led learning.  The final term in Reception helps the children be prepared for this.  If you have any questions, please speak to Mr Bogle or Mrs Alderson.

All creatures great and small!

During focus week we had a great time looking for bugs and animals in our outdoor classroom. We set up our own Mini-beast Lab outside to take a closer look at the things we found. We had a visit from Zoo Lab who brought lots of animals to show. This was also the perfect opportunity for us to learn more about our class pets, the Gant African Land Snails.

Funny for Money

We took part in raising money for Red nose day by wearing our own clothes to school and making our faces look funny! Who's face is the funniest?

Gingerbread learning.

We have been learning lots about the Gingerbread man. He is still loose in our classroom and we have no idea where he is. Children have been designing traps to capture him and have been writing letters and notes for hum to read. On Friday we decided to make our own Gingerbread men to take home and enjoy. We put red noses on them as it was red nose day.

Cafe

We have a cafe in Reception B this half term. Some children enjoyed a visit to our local café at Marks and Spencer. The staff were very kind to us and we enjoyed baby-chino's with marshmallows and biscuits. It was great to see how the people work in the café, we even spotted a couple of our Mums. A big thank you to the staff at the café, we had a fab time!

We had a great time in Reception for World Book Day. Children brought their favourite toy and their slippers for a 'Snuggle up and Read' afternoon. A big thank you to the parents that gave up their time to come and read for the children. We had a lovely time snuggling up with our juice and biscuits and listening to your wonderful stories.

Whoops a Daisy Angel - Our Christmas Play

The children enjoyed performing their play for children and staff in KS1 in the morning and then in the afternoon for members of their family. We hope you enjoy looking at photographs which were taken in between our two performance when everyone was very excited! Can you spot which children are always facing the front in the photograph of all the children in our play, and who was wriggling about after such an exciting morning? Well done to everyone for helping to make the play so special.

Leading from our London learning, children talked lots about visiting the Dinosaur Museum in London. We brought dinosaurs to the classroom and used them to lead our exploring, literacy and number learning. Take a look at all the learning that went on in and out of the classroom through exploring dinosaurs!

London Learning!

During our Cities of the World focus week children in Reception B learnt all about London. We went sightseeing on our London bus and talked about all the places we could visit. We made our very own Big Ben and wrote to the bus driver asking him to take us to our favourite land mark. We received some wonderful letters from real people who live in London.

PE

This week we had our very first PE lesson. We focused on using the space safely and moving around together. We made many shapes with our bodies. This was in the middle of our focus week learning about London. Can you spot any London Landmarks we made without bodies?

Apple and Raspberry Crumble

Today children in Reception put the fruit we picked to good use and made a delicious appe and raspberry crumble. Children really enjoyed peeling the apple with the machine that made our apples all bouncy and springy. We made the crumble topping and baked them in the oven.

Learning Through Play - Term 1

Children enjoy initiating their own learning, learning from one another and joining in with challenges with adults and children. This collection of photographs shows some of the creative and exciting learning the children take part in. Photographs will be added to each week.
