Children need their PE kits on a Tuesday and Wednesday in Y3/4C. Please remember outdoor kits because we will be going outside most weeks.

International links- On Thursday 5th December Y3/4C and Y3/4W skyped a 3rd grade class (8-9 year olds) in Dillsburg Pennsylvania. We found out about where their class was on a map and asked the children questions. We found out they never have to wear a school uniform!!!
Be Healthy Stay Safe

Day 1- We started learning our teeth and how to look after them. We started an experiment investigating how liquids can effect the teeth. We will see how it ends on Friday. After play we started our Boot Camp challenge outside. Next we learnt about different types of food and made our own food mobile. Day 2- We learnt about lots of different ways to stay safe. Here are the children sorting the pictures between what is safe and what isn't.

Pudsey Parish Church

27th June 2014. We went to Pudsey Parish church to learn about services that take place in a church and why it is a special place for Christians.

World Cup 2014

We have been learning about Brazil and all the wonderful things that Brazil has to offer. We made travel videos to persuade people to visit Brazil. Here is an example.

On Tuesday 3rd June. Year 3/4 went to visit Leeds Grand Mosque. We found out lots of interetsing things and got to ask lots of questions.

Express Yourself  Focus Week

19th May- 23rd May 2014
Day 2 and 3

We had a dance coach in to teach us some dance moves linked to our Ancient Greece topic. We then used lots of different mediums to create art work about ourself and how we like to express ourselves. We create setting descriptions of our greatest ambition or dream setting some examples were scoring the winning penalty, on stage in front of thousand, horse land or candy world. Here are some example. In the afternoon we had a go at expressing ourselves using music.

Day 1

On 19th May we worked as a whole year group to create a performance for parents. We made hats, created a piece of art work, danced and sung all day to make sure we were ready for our performance. Here are some pictures and a video of the final performance. Well done LKS2!!!!

This week we have been learning about the two main city states in Ancient Greece- Athens and Sparta. We spent time researching about the two cities and then completed some drama and art work linked to this topic. At the end of the week we wrote an information page about the two cities. The children did a fantastic job and tried really hard to produce brillant informaiton pages. Here are some examples. Well done Y3/4C

Y3/4 are writing about International and National News.
Day 4 and 5

The children were experts about a topic of interest. They created information reports which were inspired from videos seen on the Newsround website. Here are some examples.

Children were given their assignments and then they spent the morning researching about the news stories and gathering quotes. Day 2- We had a busy day making sure we finished our news reports before the deadline. We did a brilliant job. Here are the children's news reports

Leeds City Centre Trip

On Wednesday 5th February we went into Leeds City Centre on the train. This linked with our Geography topic which is comparing Leeds to a seaside town. We had a great morning and luckily the weather was dry for most of the morning!! We went on an owl hunt and found fossils in Leeds General Infirmary. We went to see the new shopping centre which was very exciting.

The Amazon

w/c 24.2.14. We have been learning about the Amazon rainforest and reading stories set in the Amazon. We painted rainforest scenes in groups to help inspire our setting description.

Write Now Focus Week

Day 3- The children started the day by making their characters and creating a profile for them. They then did some drama, asking each other questions and they had to answer in role. Finally they wrote their story which was set in their imaginary world. Day 4/5- The children created play scripts for their version of Into the Forest. On Friday when they came into school they saw there was a crime scene in the classroom. They investigated it and acted out news reports showing their findings. In groups they wrote a group Newspaper about the incidents that happened in class throughout the week.

Write Now Focus Week Day 1 and 2

Day 1- The children were all excited when they arrived into school and saw our classroom was transformed into Space. They loved going into the dark den and using the torches to tell spooky stories. We first read the story 'Into the Forest' by Antony Browne. We loved the story and enjoyed discussing what we thought it was about. We acted out the story in groups and then looked at the illustrations closely to find all the hidden images. Next we drew the setting of the forest and described the pictures. We then wrote our own description of the setting- which were fantastic!!! Enjoy reading them and looking at out art work. Day 2- We designed our own settings and then made them out of different equipment. The children then chose what text type they would use to describe their

John Lewis Advert Stories

w/c 2.12.13. We watched the John Lewis advert and realise there was no speech. We wrote our own description and dialogue to match the story of the Bear and the Hare. Here are some of our fantastic stories.

W/c 13/01/14- The children wrote diary entries in role as someone from Staithes. They recalled events about when Staithes flooded and how the characters felt.

Apprentice Focus Week

Day 1- We designed our posters for the class stall and the products we were going to make. We priced the products up and decided how much to sell the items for to make a good profit. We also did lots of Maths linked to money including creating our own class shop where we practised giving change.

Day 2- We started thinking about our adverts by creating pitches explaining why are products are so good!

Day 2-4. Mr Hall came into Year 3/4 to talk to the children about how he uses Maths in his job! The children thoroughly enjoyed it. Thank you Mr Hall! On Wednesday we had the Maths Road Show in school where the children were able to take part in fun Maths activities. On day 3 and 4 we started making our products. The children really enjoyed it!

w/c 18.11.13. Some visitors came into school to teach our class Dance. Here are each of the dances performed by the children. The dances were about a journey to France.

w/c 21.10.13 The children had a Roman Visitor in School to tell them about the Roman Empire and the Roman Army. They really enjoyed looking at the different armour. They then made their own shields and spears.

On 16.10.13 it was the big draw in school. We practised our pencil skills by drawing a Roman temple called the Pantheon. Here they all are! Freya came to our after school activity here is her picture of a dog.

Inspirational Focus Week

Day 3 and 4. Children collected information about which jobs children in the class found inspirational. They then produced a graph by hand and using a computer. Children then created freeze frames to represent an inspirational scenario. After being inspired by Pride of Britain awards we wrote our own poems about heros. Finally we used music to inspire us to create a piece of art.

Inspiration Focus Week

W/c 7.10.13 is our Inspiration Focus Week. We are looking at Inspirational children. Day 1 We researched all about the children and found out why they were inspirational. In the afternoon we had Sam the Boffin on our class and he taught us lots about sound. Day 2- We used our facts from day 1 to make our own fact file. We then acted out some different situations where children had been inspirational. We also wrote letters to the inspirational children. Finally we had a go at writing our own inspirational song.

Ukulele

The Year 3s have started to learn how to play the ukulele. They are really enjoying and have already learnt two songs. Here is the Year 3s performing 'Rock Guitar', 'I can play the ukulele' and 'Have you ever been?'

These children received a sticker in assembly. They received these for trying hard during lesson time and always being kind and helpful. One child gained their Duckling award for swimming. Well done!!!

w/c 16.9.13 We have been learning about the Romans. To begin the topic we found out about where Rome is and did some research about the city. To practise our pencil skills we had a go at drawing the Colosseum in Rome.
