This week in school we had a great time visiting the Church and listening to the Christmas story. We also made some beautiful decorations there. We also visitied the Pantomime to watch Jack and the Beanstalk. The children had a great time. To end the week KS1 had a party. We played lots of party games and then had some party food. The children had a fabulous time.

This week in our Literacy we have been looking at traditional tales. We talked about the different characters. Then the children did some hot-seating where they pretended to be a character from Jack and the Beanstalk and the rest of the class asked them questions.

As part of our focus week all children were given the opportunity to make an advert to promote our products. Robbie and Evie did an amazing job at creating these fabulous adverts.

This week in our Apprentice focus week the class were given a budget of £25 to spend on making a product to sell. We had lots of fun solving problems to do with keeping within a budget, pricing and making profit. We had a visitor come in to talk about how important maths is in real life. We also had lots of fun making products to sell on the Friday. We also made some brilliant adverts and jingles to help sell our products.

This week we have been learning about traditional tales. We listened carefully to the story of Goldilocks then had a go at re-telling the story using puppets.

This week in Literacy we have been learning about instructions. We all had a go at following some instructions for making a monster biscuit. It was great fun!

As part of our focus week all children were given the opportunity to make a video of inspirational people. These are the 3 that were chosen to show at our Oscar assembly.

This week was our ‘Inspiration Focus Week’. We used the children’s ideas and interests to inspire the children. We learnt about different inspirational jobs and people. The children enjoyed learning about police officers, fire-fighters, chefs, footballers, singers, actors and soldiers. We did lots of role-play in class and had a go at being actors and chefs. The children then produced videos using different images and 3 were chosen to show at our Oscar assembly. Y2J won an Oscar for the most inspirational idea.

23.9.13 Our learning in History this week

This term in History we are learning about our school. We have been looking at old pictures of the school and discussing how the school has changed over the years. We have also been learning about how school life was very different to what it is now. The children got the chance to look at some historic artefacts from the school’s history. This included old registers, pictures, punishment books and log books.

16.9.13 Our learning in Maths and Literacy this week

This week in Maths we have been learning about mass. We learnt how to read different weighing scales and then used this to bake our own apple crumble using the hand-picked apples from the orchard. The children then wrote some excellent instructions on how to bake an apple crumble!

Independent thinking 5.9.13 - 6.9.13

This year is the year of independent thinking at Pudsey Primrose Hill. In year 2 we spent two days learning about how to think independently in different situations and solve problems on our own. We thought of lots of different scenarios and the children came up with different ways they could solve the problems independently. Children were given the task of building the strongest bridge without any help with a limited supply of materials. We then tested the bridges to see which the strongest were.

20.1.14 Write Now Focus Week

This week the children took part in our annual Write Now focus week. Together with the rest of the school we looked at the text ‘Into the Forest’ by Anthony Browne. To start the week off with a buzz, the classroom was transformed into a forest. The children had fun making a a real life gingerbread house. They also had the joy of listening to a wonderful storyteller. We ended the week bt having a Traditional Tale Tea Party. We played lots of fun problem solvng games and then had some sandwiches!

For the past 2 weeks we have been learning about Florence Nightingale. We visisted the Thackray Medical Museum where we had the chance to look around the museum and we took part in a Florence Nightingale workshop.

This week we have been learning about toys in the past and toys now. We looked at the materials they were made of and how toys have changed over time.

24.4.14 Our learning in Literacy this week

This week in Literacy we have been learning about stories from other cultures. For one of the lessons children had to predict the ending of a story from the Muslim culture. The best 3 were done by Hannah, Gurjind and Oscar. Well done!

This week in school has been our In The News Focus Week. The children have had fun creating a class page for The Primrose Press. Y2J have been doing lots of role play as reporters, journalists and weather reporters. Children had the opportunity to walk around school and inteview teachers about their chosen article. The children also enjoyed using Ipads to research the history of media and how news reporting has changed over time.
